Dear Friends,

The world's scientists are calling for immediate and urgent action on global warming. The good news is that we have the science, technologies and policies necessary to stop it. What's needed is action by concerned people like you and me.
That's why I've joined with Al Gore and others across the country and around the world who want to halt global warming.

We're on the verge of being over one million strong and I'm asking you to join us. Please click link to stop global warming in the links I love on the right to become part of the solutions to global warming.

We need to come together and demand our leaders take the steps necessary to ensure our children and their children have a positive future. That's why I'm asking you to get involved today. Together, we can stop global warming.

Richie, Richie, Richie

Richie Sambora was busted for drinking and driving, with his girlfriend and his 10year old daughter in the car. Richie, Richie, Richie... Cut it out. Drinking isn’t helping, it’s just masking. Just stop, you went to rehab, obviously it didn’t work too well, so just stop. My question is, is why wasn’t the girlfriend driving? They said in the article that he want quietly and didn’t raise a fuss, well of course not his kid was in the car, perhaps this is the wake-up he needed. I still wish him all the best but seriously Richie, just stop. You don't want to go down like this. It must be hard to be a rockstar in some ways and easy in others. I guess people are just people no matter who they are, and we are flawed in our own unique ways, and we are the same in other ways. Hmmm. I wish I could play guitar like that!

Nuthin' much, duh...

Okay, classic stupid response today. I exit a classroom and and smack dab in front of the headmaster and he says, "What's up?" What the heck do I say, "Nuthin' much." I'm an English teacher first of all, what a response. I can see what they'll say at the end of the year, "We were going to renew your contract, but since you were doing nuthin' much, we're going to let you move on!"

I hope my kids are learning better conversational skills than I have!

Once upon a movie...

Here is another movie review; I actually don’t usually recommend movies. For instance I watched Harry Potter lose his virginity last night on December Boys, but I’m not recommending that movie, or the Almost a Woman movie I watched the other day. However, I really must recommend the movie Once that I just saw. It continues on my musical theme that started with August Rush (still haven’t see that, rush right out!). The movie Once is an Irish movie and the girl star is from Czechoslovakia. The Irish star is a street musician. The movie was made in only 17 days and cost less than 150K. Proof that moviemakers don’t need to spend millions, and months and months to entertain us. I don't want to say more and give anything away. This is a wonderful story, wonderful music, if you want to smile on the inside watch this film!

Happy Purim

I am so mad at myself. I just ruined a great Jewish holiday for my daughter. Today is Purim and we were supposed to be at Temple at 5:30. The kids dress up in costumes and the Rabbi, in costume, tells the story of Queen Esther saving the Jewish people from Haman the bad guy. Every time he says Haman, the kids shake their groggers or noisemakers, and have so much fun. They parade around in their costumes, and this year they were even having a magician. Well, she made her noisemaker Sunday and I bought her a crown for her Queen Esther costume (most little girls dress as Queen Esther) and was excited and ready to go. Well today I had a staff meeting after work until 4, and then picked up my girl at the after school daycare and then a pizza only thinking about coming home and eating and trying to clean my house for my parents visit this weekend. Purim was until 7:00, and at 6:49, I remembered. When it was too late to even be late. My daughter cried for ten minutes and then so did I. She is so mad at me she wouldn’t even hug me good night, and I am so mad at myself. We missed the holiday that is the most fun of the year, and as she said 50 times – now we have to wait 365 days for it to happen again. This mistake I can’t fix, I can’t buy my way out, I can’t change the dates, can’t rent the movie or read the book, I can’t do anything. I can’t even find the bright side, I’m too tired, and I feel like shit. All I can do is suck as a mom. Maybe the bright side is that I’m sure all of you had a much better Purim than I did.

Why?

My day. I am driving a Lumina with a rod knock that was broken, but the mechanic got running temporarily until I buy a car. I am all ready to go to work and ta-da, no keys. My daughter and I searched for 15 minutes. Get her off to school and still no keys. Now I am going to be late, and you know how I feel about being late! Luckily, I show up a ½ hour early, so I had leeway. No keys anywhere, not under or in the couch, not in my purse, not in any of the numerous bags and backpacks we have in the kitchen, not in the laundry, not in any coat pocket, not in the dump, and most importantly not in either of the two key spots that we have! Now I am going to be late, I call the teacher I share the room with and ask her if she would start my class if I don’t get there. I run to the neighbor, she says just take my car for the day. Whew I can make it, get in her car and gruhhhh, gruhhhhh, gruhhhhh - dead battery. Now I cry. My neighbor takes me to work and I call the fabulous teacher that I work with again and tell her I’ll really be ten minutes late, now I am beyond upset. She suggests that I might want to stop for some coffee, or basically get myself together! Oh yeah, and I'm sick and my throat hurts too.

After work I find my keys after a ½ hour more looking, you will never guess where - behind a table. They hadn’t fallen down they were wedged between the table and the wall but when you walked by you couldn’t see them at all. Then I'm off to help a friend and be a witness at court, tra la la la la. I run out of gas on my way over! No way! I forgot the gas gauge was broken. Why? Why I had to ask? Luckily there was a fire station at the end of the road, and the kind (&cute) firefighters had a gas can with gas in it. I was a little late to court, but didn’t miss my turn to help. Whew.

Now I am home with my little girl, we played outside, a yummy dinner is in the oven, and you know what it wasn’t such a bad day after all! I don’t know why we all end up having days like that, maybe I’m supposed to learn not to freak out. I did not learn my lesson this morning, this afternoon however, I did not freak out, just handled it the best I could. I hope I hurry up and learn this lesson, because days like this are trying on a person. Tomorrow my goal is, get up, get to work, get home, and have a nice evening. That’s it. My boss is observing me tomorrow and normally I am petrified, but I really feel that if I get to work with no problems, I am not going to freak out about the observation. I’m lucky to be alive, lucky that G-d gave me the daughter he did, and lucky to be me. Obviously, I'm not Irish and I hope everyone who is had a lucky St. Pat's Day!

The World's Shortest Fairy Tale

My Aunt N. sent me this and I had to laugh. It's my kinda fairy tale!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl, " Will you marry me? " The girl said: "NO!" And the girl lived happily ever after and went shopping, dancing, camping, drank martinis, always had a clean house, never had to cook, did whatever the hell she wanted, never argued, didn't get fat , traveled more, had many lovers, didn't save money, and had all the hot water to herself. She went to the theater, never watched sports, never wore friggin' lacy lingerie that went up her ass, had high self esteem, never cried or yelled, felt and looked fabulous in sweat pants and was pleasant all the time.
The End

Movie buzz

I just watched the movie August Rush, and I have to recommend it to everyone. It was so beautiful; the little boy in it was incredible. As soon as I finished watching it, I stepped outside and the whole world seemed magical, the stars, the strange breeze...
Music. I love music, I don’t think about it much anymore, except on weekends turning off that infernal television and cranking up the tunes. I definitely have my need for cleaning music. I know my child has an ear for music, unlike her mother. Now I am thinking I need to encourage her musically even more than I do, since I watched this amazing movie. I don’t think she is an “August Rush,” but what if she found the magic in it. She always dances, so I know she finds the energy in it. Ok, I’ve just decided although she is saving her money for an electric guitar, if she doesn’t have enough by her birthday I am going to pay for the rest anyway and replace her broken keyboard. Maybe music really is an electric connection between all things, what then could be wrong with encouraging that. Music – connections – communication – language, hmmm.
We all need some magic. Listen to the world around you, and have a magical day!

Let's Make a Daylight Deal!

Time for the daylight savings time change. Again. It is spring so we must spring ahead. This technically means we lose an hour and we won’t find it again until the fall. Story of my life, I am often losing things. I hate to lose an hour of time though. Time is the one thing I already don’t have enough of. Apparently, now we will be in harmony with Canada, which is nice. What I thought was even nicer was waking up with the bright sun shining last week, instead of waking up in the dark. I was bitching about this and wanted to know why, because there are unfortunately not many farmers left in the U.S. and that was why it started, I believe. I was looking through the net and found out that this is actually earlier than usual because daylight savings time has been extended for four weeks. This is only the second year we have done this. Now before you groan as I did before I knew why, it is actually because we are supposed to save energy. It should reduce our use of power to light our businesses and homes and save 10,000 barrels of oil each day! 10,000 of oil saved each day, excellent, so I would like to ask the government and the oil companies since we are saving so much oil each day during daylight savings time, can we reduce the price of gas to under $3 a gallon? I think that would be a fair trade off for having to wake up in the dark again!

Another Day - Another Foot of Snow

Look at my front yard, you can barely see my neighbor's car!

3:00 a.m., I just pointed the camera up and took this one. Trying to be artsy.
